At times we all feel down. But how can we help ourselves? We need to try to grateful for what we have. However small. You can start with simple questions because they are usually the best questions. Try these to start:
Ø Who do I love, who loves me?
Ø What is something I remember that made me feel happy?
Ø What is something that makes me feel motivated or passionate?
We need to work hard at being grateful sometimes. Reinforcing the idea that there are good things in my life.
Why not make a list. It could be as simple as songs you love listening to or an old film or book that provides comfort. Why not go back and watch that film and read that book.
Part of why we feel down can be linked to our past. Some bad experiences they may even seem worse now and which cloud our judgment about the future. Will it all be bad? Mark Twain wrote:
‘I have been through some terrible experiences in my life and some of them actually happened’
This is the world of ‘Catastrophisation’. Everything is a nightmare. It usually isn’t but can feel that way. Time to simplify life and appreciate what you do have.
So, when you feel down try a few of those questions and take comfort and strength from what is good in your life and what will be even better in the future.
